Sodium butyrate is the sodium salt of the short-chain fatty acid butyric
acid. Butyrate is a metabolite of intestinal bacteria and a major energy
source for gut epithelial cells, and is known to play a key role in the
homeostasis of the gastrointestinal tract.
Properties:
- Inhibitor of histone deacetylases
- Increases the production of recombinant proteins in Chinese hamster
ovary (CHO) cells
- Enhances the expression of recombinant monoclonal antibody fragments
- Affinity for water and lipids thus increases feed intake
- Promotes growth of useful bacteria in GI Tract
- Increases absorption of calcium and secretion of useful enzymes
- Helps in maintaining GI Tract ecological balance
- Energy source in mitosis and meiosis
